How the tournament is structured

Net run rate: a worked example
Take an imaginary match. River XI make 180 in 20 overs, Hill XI make 160 in 20 overs. River’s run rate is 180 ÷ 20 = 9.00, Hill’s is 160 ÷ 20 = 8.00. In that match River’s net run rate is 9.00 − 8.00 = +1.00, and Hill’s is −1.00.

An important exception: when a side is bowled out in 15 overs, the sum uses the full 20 overs, not 15. That is why a cheap collapse hurts net run rate twice.
What the table tells a reading
- Matches left: a leader with fewer games in hand is under more pressure.
- Who they still play: easier opponents ahead are an advantage.
- Negative net run rate: then winning is not enough, it has to be a big win.
- Home games left: a familiar ground and pitch add an edge.
